Beloit

Carol Ann Pickett, passed away peacefully in Beloit, Kansas, on August 21, 2023. Born on August 10, 1950, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Charles W. and Helen E. (Viergutz) Pennewell, Carol was a beacon of strength, humor, and generosity, whose spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Carol was a proud graduate of Ridgeway High School in Santa Rosa, California. Carol often enjoyed playing pool at Antonio's Bar in her spare time. She was a hub of social activity, frequently participating in Saturday night league games and cultivating a wide circle of friends. Her laughter was infectious, her voice strong and comforting, and she was always the life of any party.

Beyond her social endeavors, Carol was a dedicated caregiver. She devotedly looked after her mother, Helen, in the twilight of her life in California. Following this period, Carol relocated to Kansas to be nearer to her two sons and their families. In Beloit, she was fondly known as Grandma Carol, not just to her grandchildren, but to many neighborhood children. Her home was always open to anyone in need, and she was known for her generosity, often sharing meals with anyone who stopped by.

Carol was a woman of many interests. She loved to cook and watch her favorite TV soaps. Her love for auctions was well-known, and she delighted in finding gifts for her loved ones. Carol was also an animal lover, always having dogs and cats around until her move to her final home at Hilltop. There, she continued to make friends and spread love among the residents and caregivers.

Carol is survived by her children, Michael (Amelia) Pickett of Kansas, and Lisa Cowen of California. She also leaves behind her siblings; Chuck Pennewell, Jean Toyer, and Barbara Wong, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will miss her dearly. Carol was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Pickett, two siblings, Wesley Pennewell and Joan Pennewell, and her parents.

Carol's life was a testament to her belief that "It isn't what we leave behind, it's what we leave in people's hearts that counts." She lived this creed daily, providing comfort, laughter, and wisdom to her family, friends, and anyone who needed a friendly ear. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.

In her final days, Carol remained close to many people who had entered her life over the years. Her friends and family from California and Beloit were a constant source of love and support. Carol will be remembered as a woman who was not only funny and generous but also incredibly thoughtful. Her loss will be felt deeply by many, but her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Carol Ann Pickett was truly an angel to those who needed her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her life was a testament to the power of laughter, generosity, and love. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
