Edgar J. Eck

August 9, 1931 — January 5, 2024

Salina (Formerly Beloit)

Edgar John Eck, 92, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 in Salina, Kansas.

Edgar was born August 9, 1931 to Bernadine (Becker) and Pete Eck in Tipton, Kansas. He was their third son and twin brother to Elanora (Eck) Carlin. Edgar was in the army and served during the Korean War in Alaska from 1951 - 1953 as a radio mechanic. On October 24, 1955, Edgar was united in marriage to Carol Sue (Schroeder) Eck. To this union they were blessed with six girls.

Edgar was a General Contractor who loved his family and his faith.  In his early years of married life, Edgar worked with a road construction crew. After his 6th daughter was born they moved their family to Beloit where he worked as an Electrician for Vossman Electric. Later on he went out on his own and became a general contractor.  Edgar was a visionary and talented electrician/contractor. You could see evidence of this as he built his home from the ground up, and the houses he transformed with his own unique remodeling. He loved sharing his skills with his grandchildren, as most had a chance to help him on one of his various projects.

Edgar was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. Although Edgar was not a rich man, he valued giving his time and talent to the church. He spent many hours donating his service for ushering, repairs, and remodels at St. John’s Catholic Schools and Church.

Edgar was also known for his great love of children. Many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren can attest to sitting on his lap as he shared food, laughter, and orneriness. Edgar moved to Salina with one of his daughters to take care of his wife Carol after she got sick. After she passed he spent time babysitting many of his great grandchildren.

Surviving are his daughters and spouses: Chris (Dale) Pacey of Lincoln; Colleen (Don) File of Beloit; Carma (Dan) Gentry of Salina; Connie (Calvin) Brummer of Overland Park; Cindy (Marc) Cox of Salina, and Len Kull (Iowa);  26 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers: Herman Eck, Bernard Eck, Melvin Eck, Laverne Eck and Norman Eck, sisters: Elanora Carlin and infant sister Carolyn, his wife Carol and daughter Cori Kull, and grandchildren: Joseph and Julie File, and Ryan Cox.
