Harold N. Prather

Harold Neil Prather, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, peacefully passed away on September 11, 2023. Born on August 29, 1939, in Beloit, Harold led a life full of wisdom, and hard work. He was a man who was not only wise but also incredibly handy, possessing the ability to cultivate and nurture both the land and the relationships around him.

Harold was the cherished brother of Janice (Larry) Cross, Vaughn Prather, and Winifred Pearsall. His nieces and nephews, Carl (Kay) Prather, Julie Prather, Signe (Mark) Cook, Sonya (Terry) Petrik, Robert (Sirpa) Pearsall, Anne Marie (Doug) Cline, Caryn (Bryan) Pearsall Cook, and Laura Kraut held a special place in his heart. In addition to his immediate family, Harold was a beloved figure to a host of great-nieces and nephews, who will fondly remember his warm spirit and wise counsel.

In 1966, Harold married Shirley (Johnson), marking the beginning of a loving partnership. Together, they built a life centered around the land, farming near Randall, Kansas, where they raised crops and cattle. Harold's love for the land was not limited to farming alone; he also found joy in his garden, raising chickens, guineas, turkeys, and ducks. He took great pride in collecting eggs to use and sell, a testament to his dedication and hard work.

Harold's interests extended beyond his farm. He loved taking bus tours, exploring new places, and meeting new people. This interest allowed him to share his wisdom and handy skills with a broader community, leaving a positive impact on all those he encountered.

Harold's legacy is one of hard work, love for the land, and deep commitment to his family. He was a beacon of strength and wisdom to all who knew him, offering his handy skills and keen mind to all who needed them. His life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity, the value of hard work, and the importance of family.

Funeral services will be at Schoen Funeral Home And Monuments in Beloit on Thursday, September 14th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Scottsville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rebecca A. Morrison House and Scottsville Community Church.
