Nyla M. (Marsh) Powell

Nyla Marie (Marsh) Powell, age 66 passed away in her home on November 14th, 2021, in Downs, Ks. She was born to Charles Marsh and Charlotte (Willmarth) Marsh in Sibley, Iowa on August 3rd, 1955.

Nyla may have been born in Iowa, but she laid down her roots in Downs Ks where she dedicated her life and was a tremendous asset to the community. In April of 1974 she was united in marriage to Brad Gant and to that union Corinne Renee was born. The past 4 years she also had a fur son Kirby who she loved tremendously. Nyla was also a bonus mom to Brandy Kirchhoff Becker for many years.

Nyla’s truest loves were her grandchildren Kennedy, Tatum, Cooper, and Declan. She loved to support them in all their extracurricular activities. With all the exciting activities she found another passion to take photos. She became well known in the family as the one who would capture all the beautiful moments with her love of taking pictures. Nyla was also well known to her family and friends for making Christmas stockings as a new baby or significant other were added to the family. Everyone cherished these stockings because she made sure they represented each individual and she put her love and time into them.

Nyla graduated from the Minneapolis High School and went on to get her associates degree at the Vo-Tech in Beloit, Ks. Once living in Downs, she found her forever workplace and worked at the local pharmacies that were owned by Don Heiland, Kelly Berkley and Shawna Doane.  In 1999 she went and received certification as a pharmacy technician.

Dedicating many years to the Downs Parks and Recreation group she became a true asset to the organization and community.  Nyla made sure the baseball/softball teams were well supported and that the children of the community were taken care of through that organization. Nyla loved living in Downs and that love she proved through all years being so faithful to the various organizations and jobs she had.

Nyla is preceded in death by her parents and Betty Kaspers (mother in law) and left to mourn her is her daughter Corinne (Bryan) Hoard, Kennedy Walsh (Alexis Ryan), Tatum, Cooper, Declan Hoard, her siblings Kevin, Valerie, Calvin, Margaret, Anthony & Aaron, sister in law Lana Gant and family Lela, Trevor, Hadee, Tynlee, Ridge Arnoldy, Dee, Jesse, Byntlee and Kessler Winkel, nieces and nephews that she dearly loved and friends that became family, and a beautiful community that she cherished.

Nyla will be forever missed by her family, friends, and coworkers. She will remembered for many things but most of all for loving her family and her work.

Memorial services will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Downs Parks and Recreation.
