Paul Allen Gengler

June 22, 1937 — February 27, 2018

Paul A. Gengler was born June 22, 1937 to Frowin & Anna Marie (Schmidt) Gengler in Beloit, Kansas.  He passed awayTuesday, February 27, 2018 at his home after a long battle with COPD at the age of 80.

Paul’s mother passed when he was 10 years old, leaving Paul and his four brothers to be raised by his Aunt & Uncle, Paul and Shirley Schmidt.  Paul attended St. John’s Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Beloit High School in 1955.  He enlisted in the Navy right out of high school and served an extended tour of duty in Vietnam receiving the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal during his 10 years of service.  He continued serving his country through the Army National Guard of Kansas for a combined total of 22 years of service before retiring from full military duty.  Paul was very proud of his military career.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW and served as Post Commander.

On February 13, 1960 he was united in marriage to Roberta Peters while stationed in San Diego, CA.  To this union three children, Allan, Sheila and Tony were born.  After Paul’s discharge from the Navy he returned home to Beloit working for the Farmway Coop Feed Mill until he retired.  After his retirement he continued to work a few more years at Boogaarts Grocery Store stocking shelves and carrying groceries.  He enjoyed working with and meeting the many people he came in contact with.  While not a fan of large crowds he loved to meet and visit with people.  Especially the children, including his nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Paul loved talking about guns and shooting at targets with friends and family.  He also loved taking kids fishing and watching ball games.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Frowin & Anna Marie Gengler, Paul & Shirley Schmidt, brothers Noel, Jim and Mark, and grandson Jamie Gengler.

He is survived by his wife Roberta of 58 years; children Allan (Kim) Gengler, Sheila Gengler, Tony (Lisa) Gengler; grandchildren Christine (Jonathan) Budke, John Gengler, Janelle Gengler; and great-grandchildren Avery & Estelle Budke all of Beloit.  Brother Pat Gengler (Arizona), Sister Patricia Andrews (Center, TX) and sister-in-law Maria Gengler (Delphos).
